Heavy rains have once again gripped Pakistan, further worsening the situation for flood-affected communities. In Chiniot, continuous downpours have inundated streets and low-lying residential areas. Sheikhupura and surrounding towns also experienced severe rainfall, leading to water accumulation in neighborhoods and disrupting daily life. In Jhelum, overflowing streams and drains submerged several settlements, while rescue teams faced difficulties in reaching stranded residents due to rising waters.
At Ganda Singh Wala on the Sutlej River, water levels rose alarmingly, prompting authorities to order the evacuation of nearby villages, including those around Talwar Post. In Peshawar, torrential rains caused heavy waterlogging in key areas such as Saddar and GT Road, bringing city life to a standstill. Similarly, in Azad Kashmir’s Bagh district, the Mahl stream overflowed, forcing residents along its banks to evacuate as a safety measure.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast further heavy rainfall across multiple regions. Strong showers are expected in Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Kashmir, with rain likely to spread to Sindh, Balochistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan later in the day. Officials warn that these downpours could aggravate the already severe flood situation, posing increased risks to vulnerable communities.
The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a high alert as the ninth monsoon spell continues. Authorities warned of potential flooding in rivers and urban areas, as well as landslides in mountainous regions. Major cities including Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, and Sialkot are at high risk, while districts such as Narowal, Hafizabad, and Multan have also been placed on alert.
Rescue and relief operations are ongoing, with officials urging residents in vulnerable areas to remain vigilant and comply with evacuation orders. The government and disaster management teams remain on high alert to safeguard lives and property. The next few days are expected to be critical in mitigating the impact of the relentless monsoon rains.
