(TASSAWAR NEWS) The United States has authorized the sale of 3,350 Extended Range Attack Munition (ERAM) missiles worth $825 million to Ukraine, along with associated equipment, officials confirmed on Thursday. The purchase will be financed primarily by Denmark, the Netherlands, and Norway, while Washington will provide a loan guarantee to support the transaction.
According to the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), the deal is intended to strengthen Ukraine’s self-defense capabilities and bolster regional security. It also aligns with broader U.S. foreign policy goals of supporting stability and economic progress in Europe.
While the State Department has cleared the proposal, the sale still awaits formal approval from Congress, which will review it to ensure it meets U.S. security and policy objectives.
The development comes as Russia’s war in Ukraine enters its third year, with President Vladimir Putin showing little sign of compromise. Analysts say the deal could significantly boost Kyiv’s operational range and precision, enhancing its ability to push back against Russian forces.
Under former President Joe Biden, the U.S. committed more than $65 billion in military support to Ukraine. In contrast, Donald Trump has pushed for greater European responsibility, a stance reflected in the current arrangement where European allies bear much of the financial burden.
Experts believe the addition of ERAM missiles will reinforce Ukraine’s defense strategy, giving it advanced tools to counter current threats while preparing for future challenges.
