Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has urged calm despite his team’s poor start to the LaLiga season, collecting just one point from two games — a 2-1 defeat at Espanyol and a 1-1 draw with Elche.
Currently sitting 14th in the table, Atletico now face a tough away clash against Alaves, who are confident after last week’s victory over Levante.
Speaking at Friday’s press conference, Simeone admitted there are areas for improvement, particularly in defense, but insisted the squad needs time to gel after the arrivals of Thiago Almada, Johnny Cardoso, David Hancko and Alex Baena.
“In difficult times, we have to face them calmly in order to play the game the way we want,” Simeone said, stressing the importance of composure and focus.
The Argentine coach confirmed Atletico are still active in the transfer market, staying open to both arrivals and departures before the deadline. He also praised Alaves for their pace and strong home record, acknowledging Saturday’s game will be a difficult test.
Atletico are chasing their first LaLiga title in five years, but Simeone’s men must quickly turn results around to ease mounting pressure.
