Indonesia: Students Protest Outside Parliament, Demand Police Reforms

Jakarta (TASSAWAR NEWS) Hundreds of Indonesian students staged a protest outside the Parliament, demanding police reforms and an independent investigation into recent acts of violence.

According to reports, members of student unions had earlier met the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, who suggested that the government hold talks. However, no concrete steps have been taken so far.

The protests intensified after last week’s demonstrations against police brutality and government spending spread nationwide. The unrest has already resulted in the deaths of at least 10 people, while over 1,000 others have been injured.

The students have vowed to continue their protests until the government commits to accountability and transparent reforms.
