Lahore (TASSAWAR NEWS) The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced the postponement of by-elections in Punjab due to the devastating impact of heavy rains and floods across the province.
According to the ECP, by-elections have been delayed in the following National Assembly constituencies:
- NA-66 Wazirabad
- NA-96 Faisalabad
- NA-104 Faisalabad
- NA-129 Lahore
- NA-143 Sahiwal
Similarly, polling in Provincial Assembly constituencies has also been postponed, including:
- PP-73 Sargodha
- PP-87 Mianwali
- PP-98 Faisalabad
- PP-203 Sahiwal
The Election Commission explained that floods have severely disrupted transportation and communication systems, while both public and private infrastructure has been badly damaged. Many government schools, which serve as polling stations and storage facilities for election material, have also been destroyed.
Furthermore, the ECP highlighted that the civil administration and law enforcement agencies are currently engaged in rescue and relief operations, making it impossible to allocate resources for election duties under the current circumstances.
