(TASSAWAR NEWS) Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court seeking protection of his personality rights against the misuse of his name, image, voice, and likeness through AI-generated content and other online platforms.
Abhishek Bachchan’s Legal Move
According to his counsel, multiple websites and social media platforms have been circulating AI-manipulated videos, doctored photographs, and sexually explicit content using his identity. Additionally, merchandise was being sold under his name, misleading fans into believing that he endorsed these products.
Justice Tejas Karia, while hearing the plea, noted that takedown orders could be issued if the infringing URLs were specifically provided. The court also directed that each defendant — including platforms like Google, YouTube, Amazon, and Flipkart — must be dealt with individually. Abhishek’s legal team assured the court that they would furnish the required details.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s Case
Just a day prior, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan had approached the same court with a similar petition. Her plea stated that a website falsely portrayed itself as her official platform, published her personal information, and sold merchandise such as T-shirts and mugs without authorization.
Her lawyers described the act as defamatory, derogatory, and harmful to her dignity and reputation.
Rising Concerns Over Celebrity Rights in the Age of AI
The back-to-back legal actions by the Bachchan couple highlight the growing challenge of deepfakes, AI-generated content, and online impersonation in India. The cases underscore the urgent need for digital safeguards and stricter regulations to protect the identity and reputation of public figures.
