LAHORE (TASSAWAR NEWS) – A devastating high-level flood in the River Chenab has been triggered after India released additional water, causing massive destruction across Punjab.
At Head Marala, water inflow surged to 444,000 cusecs, while Head Khanki recorded 558,000 cusecs. Similarly, Head Trimmu is facing a dangerous rise with 265,000 cusecs, raising concerns of further inundation.
The flood has wreaked havoc in Kot Momin’s Ram Diyanah area, where several buildings, including a Government Elementary School, have been completely submerged.
In Shorkot, floodwaters overflowed into nearby areas, disrupting traffic on the Jhang-Multan Road. Meanwhile, in Multan, riverbank erosion caused by Chenab’s raging currents has washed away large tracts of land.
Multiple areas of Pindi Bhattian were also inundated, where the Government Technical College and a Police Patrolling Checkpost near Saddar Police Station have gone underwater.
Further south, settlements in Jhok Vains and Chishtian suffered severe destruction, with an entire village submerged, forcing residents to climb rooftops for safety.
At Head Islam, the water level continues to rise, flooding more villages. In Vehari, over 15 government schools have been washed away by the floodwaters.
Army and rescue teams remain deployed across Punjab, carrying out relief and evacuation operations to protect lives and livestock.
