Islamabad – In a significant move to bolster bilateral cooperation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for Iran’s peaceful nuclear ambitions and condemned Israeli aggression during a joint press conference with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, who is on his inaugural visit to Pakistan.
Welcoming President Pezeshkian and his delegation, Prime Minister Shehbaz emphasized the deep-rooted ties between the two neighboring countries, grounded in shared religious, cultural, and historical values. He expressed hope that the visit would mark a new era in Pakistan-Iran relations.

“We have agreed to expand collaboration across multiple sectors,” said PM Shehbaz. “Our goal is to increase bilateral trade to $10 billion, and today, we’ve signed numerous Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) that will soon translate into solid agreements.”
Both leaders aligned on key issues, including regional security and the fight against terrorism. PM Shehbaz reiterated Pakistan’s stance that Iran, like any sovereign nation, is entitled to develop nuclear technology for peaceful purposes, in accordance with the UN Charter.
Turning his attention to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, PM Shehbaz stated, “The silence of the global community is unacceptable. The bloodshed of innocent civilians must end. We, as the Muslim world, must rise together for the people of Gaza.”
He compared the situation in Gaza to that of Indian-occupied Kashmir, highlighting the plight of Kashmiris facing daily oppression. “Freedom for Kashmir is essential. Pakistan will never abandon its moral and diplomatic support for Kashmir’s cause,” he said, while also thanking Iran for consistently supporting the Kashmiri people.

President Masoud Pezeshkian, while thanking Pakistan for its hospitality and continued support, emphasized the importance of unity within the Muslim Ummah in the face of regional instability.
“Our two nations are bound not only by borders but by a shared spiritual and cultural heritage,” said President Pezeshkian. “The message of Allama Iqbal resonates deeply in Iran. His dream of Muslim unity still guides us.”
He noted that Iran is committed to deepening ties with Pakistan, especially through the development of joint economic zones, enhancement of border trade, and cooperation on regional security. The Iranian President condemned Israeli military campaigns in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria, describing them as deliberate attempts to fuel unrest in the region.
He urged the UN Security Council to fulfill its responsibility and act decisively against Israel’s repeated violations of international law.

President Pezeshkian also extended a formal invitation to PM Shehbaz to visit Iran, underscoring the importance of continued high-level engagement between the two states.
Earlier in the day, the two leaders held a one-on-one meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office where they exchanged views on the evolving geopolitical landscape in the Middle East, with a shared commitment to working for peace and stability in the region.
