Pakistan Defeat West Indies by 5 Wickets in First ODI

Lahore (Tassawar News) Pakistan began their ODI series against the West Indies on a winning note, clinching a 5-wicket victory in the opening match after a solid all-round performance.

Chasing a target of 248 runs, Pakistan reached the mark in the 47th over, thanks to a composed batting display led by opener Imam-ul-Haq, who scored a well-crafted 86, and middle-order anchor Babar Azam, who added a crucial 72 runs. The pair’s partnership stabilized the innings after an early wicket, setting the tone for the chase.

Earlier, West Indies posted 247/9 in their 50 overs, with Shai Hope top-scoring with 78 runs. Pakistan’s bowlers kept the pressure on throughout the innings, with Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf claiming three wickets each. Spinner Shadab Khan also made an impact, breaking partnerships in the middle overs.

The West Indies struggled to accelerate in the final 10 overs, managing only 65 runs, as Pakistan’s bowlers executed their plans with accuracy.

Speaking after the match, Pakistan captain Babar Azam praised his team’s discipline. “The bowlers set the stage, and the batters finished the job. It’s a good start, but we’ll keep improving,” he said.

The second ODI will be played in Multan on Sunday, where Pakistan will aim to seal the series, while West Indies will look to bounce back and level the contest.
