UN Security Council Condemns Attacks on Qatar Without Naming Israel

New York (TASSAWAR NEWS) The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has condemned the recent attacks on Doha, Qatar, carried out by Israel—though the statement did not directly name Israel.

The emergency session was convened at Pakistan’s request. The statement, drafted by Britain and France, was unanimously approved by all 15 UNSC members, including the United States, Israel’s closest ally.

The UNSC reaffirmed support for Qatar’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, while emphasizing the urgent need for a Gaza ceasefire and the release of hostages.

Notably, the U.S., which usually shields Israel at the UN, supported the statement this time—reflecting President Donald Trump’s displeasure over the attack.

Pakistan’s Position

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar, declared the Israeli strike a violation of the UN Charter and a direct threat to global peace, stressing that Israel has harmed not just Qatar but international stability.

Israel’s airstrike, carried out on Tuesday, targeted Hamas political leadership in Doha, killing six people, including the son of senior Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya and his office director. However, Hamas leadership survived the attack.

Qatar’s Reaction

Qatar’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, strongly condemned the attack, calling it an insult to diplomacy and an attempt to derail peace efforts in Gaza. He vowed Qatar would continue its mediation role and humanitarian efforts to secure a ceasefire, despite Israeli provocations.

In a recent interview, he warned that the strike had destroyed hopes for hostage release, making the situation more dangerous.

U.S. Response

U.S. Ambassador Dorothy Shea described the attack as “regrettable” but reiterated Washington’s stance that pursuing Hamas remains a legitimate goal. She urged Hamas to lay down arms, release remaining hostages, and accept a Gaza truce.

While criticizing the strike on Qatar, the U.S. maintained support for Israel’s right to target Hamas, stressing that such actions should not undermine broader diplomatic efforts.
